Timolol Nasal Spray

Use 
This medication is commonly used for migraine headaches.  

Side Effects 
Common side effects of timolol nasal spray may include nasal irritation, throat irritation, slow heart rate, low blood pressure, dizziness, feeling tired, cough and shortness of breath. Contact your provider if you experience any severe side effects such as difficulty breathing, chest pain, severe dizziness, abnormal heartbeat, muscle weakness, and new swelling. If you experience hives, rash, throat tightness, chest tightness, difficulty breathing, and/or swelling of the mouth/face/tongue this may be a sign of an allergic reaction. Seek medical attention immediately. 

Precautions 
Do not use this medication if you are allergic to other beta blockers. If you have a history of heart disease and are using this medication daily, talk with your provider prior to stopping the medication. Don’t use this medication with other beta blockers such as propranolol and metoprolol. Don’t use this medication if you have a history of asthma, COPD, other respiratory conditions, heart failure, slow heart rate (less than 70 beats per minutes), or low blood pressure (less than 90/60 mmhg). Talk with your provider if you become pregnant, are pregnant, or breastfeeding. 

Directions 
Use this medication at the onset of a headache. Shake bottle well prior to each use. Gently blow your nose to clear any mucus. Tilt your head forward slightly and breath out slowly. Hold the pump bottle with your thumb on the bottom and your index and middle fingers on top. Insert the tip of the bottle into your nose and aim towards the back of your head. Use your other hand to gently close the nostril not currently receiving medication. Slowly squeeze to instill one spray in each nostril as you breathe in slowly. Don’t breathe in sharp and fast. Try not to blow your nose or sneeze. If any drips out of your nose, wipe away with a tissue. This medication should not drip down throat with proper use. Repeat this process for the other nostril. May repeat this process after 15 minutes if the headache persists. Do not exceed four total sprays in each nostril within a 24-hour period. Use it only in the nose. If contact occurs elsewhere, wash with soap and water. 

Storage 
Store this medication at room temperature, do not freeze or expose to excessive heat. Caution package may not be childproof. Keep this medication in a safe space away from children. Do not flush unused medications or pour down a sink or drain.
