Lightening Cream

This drug was compounded for you by O’Brien Pharmacy according to your provider’s prescription. Use 
This cream is commonly used to lighten the skin or dark spots on the skin. It may contain the active ingredient hydroquinone in combination with tretinoin. 

Side effects 
Side effects may include skin irritation, including, redness, rash, burning, itchiness dryness, and stinging. These and other effects should disappear in a few days as your body adjusts to the medication. If these effects persist or worsen. Inform your provider. Notify your provider if redness, swelling, or if irritation does not improve with continued use of the cream. The components of this cream can also cause photo sensitivity, or a greater potential to develop sunburn when you are exposed to sunlight. Minimize sun exposure and discuss the use of a sunscreen with prescriber, or pharmacist. 

Precautions 
This cream is for external use only. Do not use the cream around the eyes. Avoid the concurrent use of products, which contain benzoyl peroxide, resorcinol, sulfur, or salicylic acid. Discontinue use if severe skin irritation occurs. Use this product only for the condition for which it is prescribed. Avoid exposure to the wind and cold temperature as these can cause the skin to become excessively dry. Avoid the use of astringents and cosmetic products that can irritate or dry the skin. Try to use a mild, non-medicated soap and avoid frequent washing and harsh scrubbing. If you are pregnant or breast feeding, discuss the risks and benefits of using this medication with your prescriber. Some ingredients may cause bleaching of fabric. 

Directions 
Use only as directed. Apply a thin layer to affected area. Clean and dry the affected area before applying the medication. Wash hands after application, unless applying to hands. If you miss a dose, use it as soon as remembered. Do not use it if it is almost time for your next dose; instead, skip the missed dose and resume your usual dosing schedule. Do not “double-up” the dose to catch up. 

Storage 
Store in the refrigerator, do not freeze. Do not use the cream beyond the beyond use date. 

Do not flush unused medications or pour down a sink or drain. You have the right to know about the proper use of your medication and its effects.
