Thyroid

Use 
This medication is used to treat hypothyroidism (not enough thyroid hormone). 

Side Effects 
Symptoms of hypothyroidism are heart palpitations, hypertension, heart arrhythmias, shortness of breath, depression, anxiety, decreased cognitive functioning, headaches, menstrual irregularities, low blood sugar, fluid retention, swollen neck and tongue, dry eyes, skin, nails, and hair, thinning of hair, cold intolerance, weight gain, constipation, vision changes, and muscle and joint pain. Symptoms of hyperthyroidism (too much thyroid) are rapid heart rate, hypertension, heart arrhythmias, tremors or shakiness, feeling over-stimulated, irritability, insomnia, anxiety, heat intolerance, cold intolerance, headaches, weight loss, diarrhea, bleeding gums, bloody nose, restless legs, thinning of hair, menstrual irregularity, vision changes, and increased urination.  

Precautions 
Contact your provider or pharmacist if these symptoms occur or if your condition worsens. Changes in diet, vitamin supplementation, detoxification of the thyroid, bio-identical hormone replacement, and exercising can affect thyroid production and therefore the dosage of thyroid supplementation. Thyroid levels should be monitored by your provider so necessary adjustments can be made. 

Directions 
Take this medication on an empty stomach, 1 hour prior to food or drink or 3 hours after. If you miss a dose, take as soon as possible, but at least 4 hours from the next dose. Talk to your provider before stopping this medication. If this medication is different in appearance, taste, texture, color, etc. from what you were expecting, please call the pharmacy. 

Storage 
Store at room temperature in a dry place. Do not flush unused medications or pour down a sink or drain.
