Use
This medication is commonly used to treat low sex steroid hormones levels, infertility, or the symptoms of low hormones or hormone imbalance, or to maintain a pregnancy.
Side Effects
While adjusting to bio-identical hormones, women may experience temporary changes in menstrual flow, breakthrough bleeding & breast tenderness. Progesterone can cause temporary drowsiness.
Precautions
Abuse of androgens such as testosterone/DHEA can cause serious side effects such as cardiovascular changes, stroke, hostility, aggression, liver toxicity, structural body changes & male infertility. Signs of hormonal overdose/imbalance are prolonged irritability, aggressive behavior, persistent headaches, insomnia, swelling & weight gain. Do not abruptly discontinue hormones without consulting with your provider or pharmacist as symptoms of withdrawal may occur such as anxiety, depression, fatigue, irritability, loss of appetite, decreased libido & insomnia. Existing disease states may improve. Medications such as antidepressants, drugs for anxiety & insomnia, blood pressure medications & medications for diabetes may need lower dosages. Consult your provider or pharmacist if any of these conditions occur or persist skin irritation or discoloration, nausea, vomiting, acne, headache/migraines, yeast infection, itching, rash, depression, anxiety, an increase/decrease in periods, missed periods, agitation, hirsutism, clitoral enlargement, or voice changes. If any current symptoms worsen or new symptoms appear, or if you become pregnant, consult with your provider or pharmacist. If this medication is different in appearance, texture, color, etc. From what you expected, please call the pharmacy.
Directions
Remove outer wrapper before insertion. If instructed to divide suppository, carefully cut lengthwise with a knife or razor. May wet with water to smooth insertion. Insert vaginally or rectally as directed. If inserted vaginally, it is recommended to lie down for at least 20 minutes post insertion to decrease leaking. You may use a sanitary napkin but not a tampon with vaginal suppository use. Wash hands before and after use. Avoid intercourse for at least one hour following use.
Storage
Caution package may not be childproof. Store at room temperature. Exposure to heat may cause melting. If melted in wrapper, refrigerate to harden. Do not flush unused medications or pour down a sink or drain.
