Uses
This is commonly used to treat a cancerous or pre-cancerous growth on the eye or to prevent scarring after eye surgery.
Side Effects
Side effects may include stinging, burning, and redness of the eye or eyelid margin. You may experience excessive watering of the eye. Medication may cause irritation of skin where medication has touched. Avoid contact with skin, mouth, or other mucous membranes.
Precautions
Caution this drug is cytotoxic. Use caution when handling. If you or a member of your household are nursing, pregnant or plan to be, consult a provider before handling. Report persistent pain, vision changes, or severe irritation to provider.
Directions
- Wash hands thoroughly before and after each use.
- If instructed, wear disposable gloves during administration.
- Shake gently if directed by pharmacy.
- Tilt head back and gently pull down the lower eyelid.
- Instill the prescribed number of drops into the eye.
- Close eye gently for 1–2 minutes.
- Avoid touching the dropper tip to the eye or any surface.
- Remove gloves and wash hands after administration (if used).
- Blot tears with a tissue or use a warm cloth to remove drops that have come in contact with skin.
If using other eye medications, separate by at least 5–10 minutes. If you miss a dose, instill a drop as soon as you remember, unless it’s closer to time for the next dose. Do not double up.
