Atropine

Use 
Common uses include slowing the progression of myopia in children. Atropine sulfate belongs to groups of medicines called mydriatics (medicines that widen the pupil) and cycloplegics (medicines used to relax the muscles which enable the eye to focus). 

Side Effects 
While generally well tolerated, this medication may cause pupil dilation. Bright lights may bother you for some time after using this medication. Contact your provider if blurred vision becomes problematic. Other side effects include stinging, eye irritation, dry mouth, skin, or eyes. Call your provider if any of these side effects are problematic. 

Precautions 
Do not take this medication if you are allergic to this drug or any part of this drug; if you have glaucoma; or if you have had a severe reaction to this drug in the past. This medication may cause harm if swallowed. If it is swallowed, call a provider or poison control center right away. 

Directions 
Tilt your head back and drop drug into eye. Avoid touching dropper to any surface. 

After use, keep your eye closed. Put pressure on the inside corner of eye. Do this for 1 to 2 minutes to keep the drug in your eye. Wash hands after application. 

Do not use with contact lenses do not wear soft lenses while using this medication, they may become discolored. For hard lenses, remove prior to application and wait at least 15 minutes prior to reinsertion. If you miss a dose use the missed dose as soon as you think about it; if it is close to the next dose, skip the missed dose and return to your normal schedule. 

Storage
Store at room temperature in a dry place away from light. (36°f to 77°f) 

Caution Package may not be child proof. Keep in a safe place away from children and pets. 

Special Storage for Preservative Free Preparations 
Most preparations are preserved. If you receive a preservative free formulation, it is because you or your prescriber has requested this due to a known allergy.  

Caution Package may not be childproof. Keep out of the reach of children and pets. Store current-use bottle in the refrigerator. Use one bottle for no more than 72 hours and discard, even if some remains, and start a new bottle with the next dose. Store unused bottles in the freezer until beyond use date on the label. Place frozen bottle in the refrigerator to thaw 8 hours prior to first use. Protect from light. Keep the container tightly closed. Do not use after the beyond use date.
