Prokarin therapy is a transdermal cream applied to a patch
and placed on the skin. Transdermal means that the active ingredients
enter the blood stream by being absorbed through the skin. The cream
is dispensed in syringes for easy and accurate application onto
the patch. The patches are worn twice daily for 8-hour intervals.
Elaine DeLack, a registered nurse from Stanwood, Washington, diagnosed
with MS, developed the Prokarin Patch delivery system for
other MS patients. Her research information dates back to the 1940's
when Dr. Hinton Jonez learned of injectable histamine treatment
for MS at a meeting of the American College of Allergy from the
then well-known Bayard T. Horton, M.D. of the Mayo Clinic. Ms. DeLack's
medical research has made it possible for this treatment to be administered
on a patch versus the previously used injectable form.
Prokarin has been available since the middle of 1999. Current
statistics, as reported in Alternative Medicine Review, show that
60-70% of MS patients who have tried Prokarin receive some
symptom relief. The degree of relief varies from person to person,
as does their symptoms.
